Kaede Beach

What is Kaedeok Beach?
The Kanoku Coast is located in Setouchi-cho, Kanoku, in the southern part of Amami-Oshima Island, Kagoshima Prefecture, and is a natural beach characterized by blackish sand of rocky origin. It is included in the Amami Islands National Park and is noted as a rare non-coral reef beach because of its highly natural topography where the river and sandy beach are combined. It is an extremely precious beach in Japan, where endangered species such as green turtles and loggerhead turtles, as well as leatherback turtles were confirmed to be laying eggs in 2002.
Reasons why Jadeok Beach is popular and how to enjoy it

The reason for the popularity of the Jadeok Coast lies in its pristine coastal scenery and rare biodiversity. The spacious coast and the Jadeok River watershed together provide a habitat for a wide variety of creatures, especially more than 432 species of shellfish, more than 30 of which are reported to be on the endangered list.
The gentle, bay-like waves facing the open ocean are also suitable for surfing and bodyboarding, and are popular even among beginners. The time of day when the waves begin to fill from low tide to low tide is considered to be particularly good, and is also a favorite among local surfers.
As for nature observation, green and loggerhead turtles can be seen laying eggs on the beach at night, making it an attractive experience for wildlife lovers and ecotourism-minded travelers.
