The workshop went very smoothly. The mud-dyeing process was more authentic than I expected, and it was fascinating to watch the color gradually change. I’m also happy with how the T-shirt turned out. However, since my hands got a little dirty, it would have been perfect if I’d had a little more time to wash them.
It was my first time trying weaving, but before I knew it, I was totally hooked lol. You get to pick the thread colors yourself, and being able to create your own original piece is seriously awesome! The sense of accomplishment when I finished was off the charts, so I even showed it off to my friends (lol).
I tried my hand at a traditional Amami mud-dyeing workshop. It was really fascinating to watch the T-shirt gradually take on color, and thanks to the artisan’s careful guidance, I was able to create a one-of-a-kind souvenir.
The dyeing experience was fun, but the smell of the mud bothered me a little. It was also difficult to get the colors to turn out the way I wanted.
I was able to experience the depth of mud dyeing. I felt very attached to the T-shirts that I designed and carefully dyed myself. It was a very meaningful time for me to experience the traditional culture of Amami.
