The Kanasakubara primeval forest, a national park, is home to subtropical plants such as the giant fern Lizard Hego, and is inhabited by the Amami rabbit, a special natural treasure, and the rare species of Kinobori lizard.

It is said that the lizard's hego was food for dinosaurs, giving a sense of its prehistoric history.

One of the main attractions of a walk in the Kinsaku primeval forest is the magical sensation of being transported back in time to the age of the dinosaurs.

I definitely wanted to visit the Kinsaku primeval forest when I came to Amami! When we actually walked through the forest, we came across huge ferns and rare creatures, and it was as if we had time-traveled back to the age of dinosaurs. The nature walk in Kanasakuhara was an experience that allowed us to get in touch with the precious flora and fauna unique to Amami. The guide's stories were fun and engaging. We saw a lizard's hego tree stretching out in search of light, the leaves of a swaying kudzu potato, and during our stay on the island, we were able to see a Lidth's jay and a Ryukyu wild boar. Next time, I would love to visit again to see the Amami rabbit and the Ishikawawa frog, the habu.

Participating in a walking tour of the Kanasakubaru primeval forest on Amami Oshima Island was a magical experience, as if I had time-traveled back to the age of dinosaurs. While walking through the primeval forest, we were able to see up close the giant fern, the lizard-head snake, and were impressed by its overwhelming size and power. We were also able to encounter rare creatures and plants, and once again felt the richness of nature. It was more of a walk on a flat road than a real trek. There was some climbing and descending. I think it is a very good walk for those who are not physically strong. I booked this tour because I wanted to visit a World Heritage forest. The walk took about one hour on a flat path with explanations. On the way, we saw beautiful butterflies, Amami frogs, and habu. There were many unfamiliar plants in the forest, and the last one, the Okinawa white oak, was mysterious and wonderful. On the way to and from the tour, I was impressed by the beautiful view of Ohama beach from above. The explanation was very detailed, and they took a lot of pictures and videos, so it was a very good memory for me. Thank you very much.
