*There is no age limit for participation in tours, but snorkeling tours are available for ages 7-60.

*Toddlers may accompany you on the tour, but are not allowed to snorkel. You will also need someone to watch over your child while snorkeling. Please make reservations with at least 2 adults.

*We will take you to a restaurant on Kakeroma Island. If the restaurant is closed, we will arrange for a box lunch from a restaurant on Kakeroma Island (content is up to you) and have a lunch break at the cottage.

*For those who apply for the tour as a single person: 50% surcharge. If the tour is mixed on the day of the tour, the surcharge will be refunded after the date of participation.

*In case of stormy weather such as rain or typhoon, or when bad weather is predicted in advance, please call us the day before the tour, or at the latest before leaving the lodge on the day of the tour, to inquire whether the tour can be held. The guide will contact you if it is obvious that the tour will not be possible due to inclement weather.

*Snorkeling may be conducted at a different beach on Kakaroma Island from the beach where the beach cottages are located, depending on weather conditions and for safety reasons.

*Kakeroma Island tours basically meet at Setouchi Umi no Eki (Setouchi Sea Station) at Koniya Port in the southern part of Amami-Oshima. For those staying on Kakaroma Island, it is possible to start the tour from Kakaroma Island. Please inquire in advance.

My husband and I took this tour together. It was our first beach vacation as a couple in a long time, and since the guide took so many photos for us, it turned into a wonderful memory. The oceanfront cottage we used for snorkeling had a fantastic view; it was well-ventilated and comfortable, and the facilities and amenities were great. It was really nice to be able to head out sightseeing while still dry. The guide was also very kind and chatted with us about all sorts of things. Since it was our first time in Kakeroma and we weren’t familiar with the local transportation, we were worried about what to do—so we’re really glad we chose this tour. My friend and I took part in the tour together! In the morning, we went beach snorkeling, and in the afternoon, we were taken on a walk around the island ^ ^ Since it’s beach snorkeling, I’d recommend it even for beginners. As soon as I stepped into the ocean, I was surrounded by colorful fish and coral. What really stood out to me about beach snorkeling was how close I could get to the coral. I was completely mesmerized by the impressive table coral and the schools of blue damselfish. I was careful not to let my fins bump into the coral, and with every stroke, a new wonder awaited me. The water was incredibly clear, and there were plenty of clownfish hiding among the sea anemones, so I think families with elementary school-aged children would really enjoy this experience. The view of the beach from the charming, rustic cottages was also wonderful. Before exploring the island after snorkeling, I enjoyed a delicious chicken rice bowl at a cute little eatery run by a friendly local woman next to a row of deigo trees, and then she took me on a walk. Since we were accompanied by a guide who knows the island well, you don’t need any prior knowledge. I was moved by a 350-year-old deigo tree and, at another spot, by the vitality of the banyan trees. I gained new insights and was completely captivated by Kakeroma! I’ve visited Amami Oshima many times, but this was my first time on Kakeroma Island, so opting for a guided tour was absolutely the right choice. I was able to enjoy the sightseeing without any worries—I just had to follow along safely and comfortably. While exploring on your own can be nice, it’s great to start by visiting the famous spots without getting lost, guided by a knowledgeable local. It was truly a wonderful experience! I highly recommend this—the local guides, who know the island inside and out, will share the charm of each attraction with you!

Our family of five took part. Since our guide lives on Kakeroma Island, he shared plenty of stories that only a local could tell. Not only were his stories fascinating, but he was also great at adapting to our pace, making the whole experience comfortable from start to finish. During the snorkeling portion in the first half, he guided our kids—who were still getting used to it—while skillfully teaching them the proper techniques, so they improved far more quickly than if we parents had taught them ourselves. As parents, we felt completely at ease leaving them in his care, which allowed us to fully enjoy the many marine creatures ourselves and made for a truly fulfilling experience. During the walk in the second half, he explained things like why Deigo trees were planted there and why the path forms a tunnel-like shape, allowing us to learn about the history and geography of the area, and it was also interesting to hear about how the entire village works together to raise the children—reprimanding them when necessary and praising them when they do well. Even though it’s a sparsely populated island, seeing the children playing outside gave me the impression that it’s a lively and vibrant place.

Mr. Toku, who is from and lives on Kakeroma Island, served as our guide. It was fun hearing all sorts of stories about the island. The snorkeling spot was excellent—the coral was thriving and there were plenty of fish. I was delighted to see schools of beautiful, non-stinging jellyfish. You can visit Kakeroma Island on your own, but it’s hard to find good snorkeling spots, and the island is surprisingly large with narrow roads, so I’m really glad I joined this tour! No matter where I pointed my camera, I found nothing but retro and nostalgic scenes! After snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters off Kakeroma Island, I took a stroll through an old village and snapped some really stylish photos—I’m so happy with how they turned out! I also managed to capture some lovely photos of myself just relaxing by the beach during my free time. That said, the sun is pretty strong, so you might want to make sure you’re well-protected against sunburn. I really enjoyed the island vibe to the fullest!

I went to Kakeroma Island on a trip with my boyfriend. It was so much fun when the two of us swam in the beautiful ocean and spotted some fish, and later, as we explored the island, we were both soothed by the retro scenery☆ Since we had some leisurely free time, we were able to spend some special time together, just the two of us, by the beach. It’s the perfect plan for creating wonderful memories as a couple♪

Although I was traveling alone, the guide was very friendly and chatted with me, so I was able to enjoy Kakeroma Island without feeling lonely. After snorkeling and taking in the beautiful ocean, I spent my free time leisurely strolling through an old village, and it became a wonderful memory of a luxurious solo trip where I was completely immersed in the great outdoors and the retro scenery.
