Characteristics of Oshima Tsumugi

What are the characteristics of Oshima tsumugi?Kasuri patternThe pattern is called
The pattern is created when the yarn is dyed, and then precisely matched during the weaving process using advanced techniques.
Many of the designs are based on geometric patterns and nature motifs!

The combination of "mud dyeing" and "indigo dyeing" unique to Amami Oshima produces unique deep black and brown shades of color.
Mud-dyeing is a traditional technique of dyeing with tecchigi (wheel-plum) and then coloring with Amami mud, which contains high iron content.

Woven of 100% silk, it is lightweight and durable, and may be passed down from parent to child!

I had some time before my flight home, so I tried on Oshima silk. I was glad that I did not need to bring anything and could have a quick experience! I could actually feel the elegant texture of the kimono, which was a very valuable experience. I was very satisfied with the accessibility from the airport and the efficient use of my time!

We changed our plans due to bad weather and joined this experience, but it was a great decision! I was able to enjoy the experience indoors, so it was not affected by the weather. The Oshima silk was lighter and more comfortable than I had expected, and the patterns were very beautiful. I also had my picture taken, which was a wonderful souvenir of my trip. As a memory of our family trip, we tried on Oshima tsumugi silk! There were sizes for babies, so the whole family was able to wear matching tsumugi and take pictures together...
