What is Tsumugi?
Pongee is a textile made from silk threads made from silkworm cocoons,Lustrous luster and luxurious feel peculiar to silkis a feature of this product.
Yarn silk is dyed at the thread stage using a technique called "yarn dyeing," and then woven to produce beautiful patterns. Since this dyeing and weaving process is highly technical and time-consuming, it requires a great deal of cost to produce.
Not only for its beauty, but also for its durability, tsumugi has long been widely used for everyday and work wear.
History of Oshima Tsumugi
The history of Oshima tsumugi dates back to the Nara period (710-794). The record in the Shosoin of Todaiji Temple states that a brown pongee was offered from the southern island, and this is considered to be the prototype of Oshima tsumugi.
The process approached its present form around 1716, when cotton pongee yarn was used toDyeing with Teechee Wood and Mud FieldThe technique was established.
In the Meiji period (1868-1912), Oshima silk began to be widely distributed, and by the Taisho period (1912-1926), the use of honkinen kneaded yarn gave Oshima silk its unique luster, which is still used today. In recent years, textile products have also appeared and are widely used for clothing and accessories.
