Materia Falls and Mangroves of Amami

This plan includes a walk and the second largest mangrove canoe ride in Japan along a course that allows visitors to fully enjoy nature, such as "Materia Falls," which has been admired as a waterfall that soothed the fatigue of travelers crossing mountains, and "Forestopolis," a forest bathing park with subtropical plants located at the foot of Yuwandake (Mt. Yawan).

Materia Falls

Although it is located in the middle of a dense forest, the sun always shines through this historic waterfall, which has long been admired as a waterfall that soothed the fatigue of travelers crossing the mountains.

It is the only place in the forest where the sun never shines, and its name comes from the meaning of "a beautiful waterfall where the sun shines.

You will stroll in the Materia Falls Stream Zone and Forest Bathing Park, and enjoy the view at the Ywan-dake Observatory.

Canoe Touring

After lunch in Uken village, we will explore the mangrove forest by canoe. We have prepared highly stable canoes that are easy to ride even for first-timers!

Our guides value "basic paddling techniques" which are important for enjoyment and will support you well.

We will go to a mysterious mangrove forest, which is both a river and an ocean, but also a forest.

Depending on the time of day, you can get off the canoe and play on the mud flats. Please feel free to join us!

Access to the site

At Route 58, turn right at the Amami Shinseisha Printing Mae signal (from Nase, turn left from the airport).
1.6 km toward the Wako Tunnel, past the Oshima Motor Vehicle Inspection and Registration Office, Kyushu District Transport Bureau, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, on the left, next to Kawaguchi Indoor.

■From Naze, exit the Wako Tunnel, about 200 meters, and it will be on the right.

■Basically, we do not provide pick-up service, but we will pick you up near the meeting place and at your accommodation in downtown Naze. Other guests will be picked up at "Island Service Nase Parking Lot".
