It was late at night on the mountain road and we had a lot of fun seeing all the animals! It rained heavily and we were so excited to see the hubs! The guide was very kind and gave us detailed explanations that were easy to understand! I would like to take another tour when I come to Amami again!

It wasn't raining and they guided us in a jeep. It was easy to see from everywhere and I was very happy that the whole family was able to experience it together under the stars. Also, the guide used a microphone and speakers so that we could hear his voice, so we were able to listen to his stories well without being drowned out by the sound of the jeep driving. We were able to see so many Amami Owl rabbits. Since he guides every night, he surely knows the spots. He also found and stopped for us a Ryukyu kite perched on a power line, and we enjoyed the male's call. We were also very happy to see habu and fireflies! On the way back, everyone was getting better at spotting the Amami rabbit. Also, although not included in this tour, Ashitoku Fishing Port, where we met, is a great place for stargazing as there are few street lights. Since it was just near the full moon, we were able to let the children experience the brightness of the moonlight. The tour starts at 10 p.m., which may be difficult for young children, but I think it is a good time for them to participate if they get a good workout in the morning and take lots of naps to prepare for the night. I would recommend this tour alone or in a group!

I participated in the August Midnight Tour. We fully enjoyed the Amami rabbit, wood hare, kenagane rats, Rurikakezu, Shigi, fireflies unique to summer, starry skies, etc. We were very impressed by the guide's insight and love of nature. I attended the Midnight Tour on August 24, 2024. I am very satisfied. We were able to see the Amami rabbit as well as many other animals. Below is a summary of the animals we were able to see and photograph (not an exact number). Those marked with zeros are those for which we were able to take good, clean photos. Amami rabbit: more than 10 in total, although it is possible that we saw the same individual on both trips. Lidth's Jay: 2 or 3 Zuaka Green Pigeon: 2 in a pair Amami Yamashigi: 3-5 Long-billed Storks: 3 to 4 One owl larger than a Ryukyu Screech Owl (don't remember the species, too dark to take a picture): 1 0 Amami's Ithaca toads (I can't remember the species) Other endemic frogs: probably Otton's frogs, Ryukyu sculpin frogs, etc. 0 hermit crabs Fireflies Extra: Sagaribana (white), Sagaribana (pink) What was not seen Habu: They said they sometimes saw habu. The previous group said they did not see any habu, but did see snakes. Wild boar: They said they had seen quite a few recently, but they did not appear in front of us. Other Even if you do not use a high-sensitivity camera, you can take beautiful pictures because the light illuminates the subject. However, since most of the photos are taken standing on the top of the jeep, the distance between the camera and the subject is quite long. If it is just an Amami rabbit, I could get by with about 20x optical. Since the creatures move and my car moves even when the subject is stationary, I decided to shoot video and extract the best shots later, rather than focusing on the subject and taking beautiful photos. We joined the Midnight Tour to enjoy the night of Amami Oshima from a different perspective. The drive in a roofless jeep was the ultimate relaxing experience away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and with the extensive knowledge and enthusiasm of our guide, who has over 15 years of experience, we were able to observe up close nocturnal creatures such as the Amami rabbit and the Ryukyu konohaku, which are normally not seen in the wild. Participating in the Amami Oshima Midnight Tour was one of those adventures I wanted to experience at least once in my lifetime. Encountering nocturnal animals is truly a breathtaking experience. This was the best mid-night tour I have ever been on! The guide drove us around the area, finding, introducing, and explaining about the creatures living in the area, especially the "Amami rabbit," which is a special natural treasure of Japan. Before participating in the tour, I was worried that we might not see many creatures, or that we might get bitten by a hub or something while walking, but we were fine. As a result, we had a very fulfilling time that exceeded our expectations. I was able to feel the nature of the island with my whole body, which is something I cannot usually feel. You will be guided by a very friendly and knowledgeable guide. One of the unique features of this tour is that we were guided in a jeep with the roof removed. Wild animals run away as soon as they hear the sound of a car, but it was easy to spot them because of the clear visibility! The midnight tour was great. The Amami rabbit is so cute, we saw more than 10 rabbits and many of them were quite serviceable and showed us a slow meal time. It was nice to have a 360-degree view since it was a holo-less type of jeep. The thrill of driving on an off-road-like area also tickled my sense of adventure. The tour was warm and you could feel the personality of the guide. They answer various questions about Amami. Highly recommended!

The weather was just perfect that day, the starry sky was amazingly beautiful, and the night tour was held under a star-filled sky. When it came time to take the ATV into the rugged road, there were so many creatures. We were able to see more than 15 black-crowned night herons, a cormorant, a habu, an ootongaer, a hana-saki toad, a lilac jay, and a yellow-bellied firefly...and so much more. The guide was very attentive in his explanations, and I could tell that he loves the nature of Amami very much. He answered my questions in detail. The experience of adventuring on the mountain roads in a manual jeep was also quite exciting. I am very grateful to the guide who took us. I would like to participate again when I come to Amami Oshima next time.
