I signed up because I wanted to experience nature at night. Although it was a cloudy day, I was able to see the pink clouds as the sun set. The guide told me that since we were dealing with nature, there was no guarantee we’d see anything, but in the end, I was able to spot the Amami black rabbit several times. Although we weren’t able to get out of the car, we took some videos, which made for a great keepsake. It was also a huge help that they provided transportation back to the hotel.
I took part in the sunset canoe tour on the day I arrived in Amami. The view of the setting sun reflecting off the surface of the mangrove-lined river was absolutely beautiful, and I was able to enjoy a relaxing time. However, I was a little bothered by the bugs at dusk, so it would have been even better if there had been some information about insect repellent.
First, we paddled through the mangroves at dusk and enjoyed the luxurious experience of watching the sky turn crimson from the water. Next, we set out to explore the forest after the sun had completely set (sweat). The forest was pitch-black at night, but our guide used a flashlight to spot one rare creature after another, and I was deeply moved by the profound beauty of Amami’s natural world.
On the day we arrived, my child and I took part in the Sunset Mangrove Canoe tour. I was worried they might be tired from the trip, but as we glided along the calm river in the canoe, my children seemed completely refreshed and were mesmerized by the sunset reflecting on the water. Since private tours are also available, we were able to spend a relaxing time just as a family, making it the perfect start to our trip to Amami Oshima.
