I participated in the Midnight Tour on New Year's Day 1/3 by myself. It was windy and rainy, so the driver asked me if I wanted to use an uncovered jeep or a van, and it turned out to be a good choice because it was very cold. Just going through the forest roads at night gives you a sense of adventure and naturally focuses your attention on the signs of animals. The guide's explanations were professional and easy to understand, and the moment we spotted the Amami rabbit took my breath away.

I knew of the Amami rabbit because it was the design for the Endangered Species Series postage stamps, but I had almost given up on the idea that it was not easy to see. The perception that Amami Oshima = Amami rabbit never left my mind, and it was not until I actually visited the island that I learned of the existence of this tour. The low hurdle of being able to make a reservation on the day of the tour and participate by myself was the deciding factor in my decision to join the tour. 　The guide was very kind, and he provided round-trip transportation to and from Nase City just for me. 　As a result, we were very happy to see about 10 Amami rabbit, a damselfly, and even an Amami warty newt. 　I would highly recommend this tour if you want to see the endemic animals of Amami Oshima.
