ホノホシ海岸とは

奄美大島の南端の岬に「ホノホシ海岸」があります。海岸を埋め尽くすように真ん丸の小石が一面に広がっており、その景観には驚かされます。石が真ん丸になった理由は、周辺の荒々しい海流にもまれたことによります。

また、その荒々しい海が釣りの好環境をもたらしており、カツオや伊勢エビ、タイなどの釣り場としても知られています。ところで、この海岸の石は持ち帰りが厳禁です。

実は、ホノホシ海岸の石には伝説があります。ホノホシ海岸の石には現地の霊が宿っており、持ち帰ると夜な夜な石が動き出します。しかも、その石を持ち帰った人には様々な災いが降りかかります。

迷信に過ぎませんが、ホノホシ海岸の特徴にもなっている石ですので、見るだけにしておくのが訪問者のマナーということです。

・住所：鹿児島県大島郡瀬戸内町蘇刈ホノホシ海岸
古仁屋から626号線を蘇刈方面へ進みます。「エビ養殖場」を過ぎると、案内板があります。そこを左へ曲がるとすぐに海岸に付きます。
