What is the Kadoku Site?
The Jiadeok site is located inIt exists on an isolated dune on the left bank of the Katoku River in the Setouchi district of Amami-Oshima Island, where the village of Katoku is located. It was accidentally discovered in 1973 during a gravel operator's mining operation, and it is possible to smell the life of the people who lived in the early Jomon period.
There are scattered traces of people who lived here during the Jomon to Heian periods by gathering shellfish, but it is not certain whether they had a seasonal or permanent base here, as there are no remains of residential pillars.
However, as you will see when you visit the current bathing beach in the surrounding area, the sea is shallow. One can imagine that this was a perfect location for collecting motionless shellfish and seaweed. It should be noted that odd-shaped earthenware vessels have been excavated.Lamps for lighting made for ritual purposesis a unique development of this Amami-Oshima island and is a rarity. It is only a 30-minute drive from downtown Koniya, so those who want to feel the romance of the Jomon period may want to extend their visit.
