大笠利教会の風景

大笠利教会とは

大笠利教会は笠利小教区にあるカトリック大笠利教会を指しています。奄美大島はカトリック教会の布教が盛んに行われており、それが名瀬までの地域に集中しています。

なかでも奄美空港に近いこの教会はカトリック巡礼をする方にとっては第一巡礼地として設定されるケースも多いでしょう。教会のエピソードを物語るのはやはりアンジェラスの鐘抜きでは語れないところです。

日本全体が軍国主義へ向かう潮流の折にカトリック排斥の流れで多くの奄美の教会が焼き討ちにあってしまい、この大笠利教会も例外ではありませんでした。

焼失を逃れたベルは宮崎へ渡り、浦和復興のシンボルの鐘として使われ、この地に帰って来たのはほんの30年前でした。

巡礼としてでなく用岬やあやまる岬へ立ち寄った際に観光として足を運んでみるのもお薦めです。

Cape Ayamaru - Amami-Oshima-. Ayamaru Cape, now one of the Kagoshima Romantic Roads, is located at the northern end of the island near Amami Airport, the gateway to the sky, and is known as a representative scenic spot where you can look down dynamically on the sea spread out before you. It is also a place where you can feel the openness of the tropics and enjoy the fascinating panorama all to yourself.
