About Setouchi Town Library and Local History Museum

The Setouchi Town Library and Local History Center is,About 1 hour and 40 minutes by car from Amami AirportIt is about a 5-minute drive from the Setouchi Town Hall, and about a 15-minute walk from the Setouchi Town Hall. This library is a facility with a library on the first floor and a local library on the second floor.

The first floor houses a regular library and an exhibition of Toshio Shimao's works and related materials. On the second floor, in the local museum, visitors can see the Moronaka Shibaya, a folk performing art that has been handed down in Moronaka, Setouchi Town since ancient times, the Yui Toyonen Odori dance, Noro ritual implements, and other nationally designated important intangible folk cultural property materials.

Visitors can learn about the history and culture of Setouchi Town. Admission is free, and the museum is closed on Mondays, April 1, the year-end and New Year holidays, and once a year on a special day for organizing materials.
