本茶峠とは

本茶峠は、奄美大島本島の奄美市名瀬町と大島郡龍郷町にまたがる海抜289メートルの峠のことです。

その昔には険しい峠として知られていましたが、現在では峠の南方向に国道58号線のトンネルがあるため交通量は多くはない峠となっています。

本茶峠は奄美名物のひとつである緋寒桜（ひかんざくら）の名所It is known as the

奄美で桜ロ言えばこの寒緋桜を意味するほどで1月～2月の冬期に咲く寒桜It is.

寒緋桜は深い桃色の花が真下を向いて咲く一風変わった桜です。

奄美においても緋寒桜は各所にありますが、本茶峠の緋寒桜はその峠道に沿って咲き誇り、開花時期の風情はひときわ見事なものとなっています地元民だけでなく多くの観光客にも親しまれています。
