ムチャカナ公園の風景

ムチャカナ公園とは

ムチャカナ公園は喜界空港から車20分、自転車60分のところにある、遊具はないのですがちょっとした広場が開けています。

奄美にはムチャ加那節という有名な民謡が伝え続けられていて、その物語をもとに造られました。薩摩の役人に気に入られた美女のウミトラが逃げ出して喜界島で結ばれたのちに生まれた娘ムチャカナも、あまりに美人だったためにねたまれ海に突き落とされ、そのショックでウミトラも自殺したという言い伝えです。

公園の入り口にある鳥居をくぐりちょっとした上り坂を１０分ほど登っていくと、ウラトミとムチャカナの美しい親子の悲しい物語の舞台となる、喜界島の小野津集落が見渡せる高台もあります。

また悲しい運命を辿ったウラトミとムチャカナを偲んで建立されたムチャ加那の碑や母ウラトミの墓を拝むことができます。
