与路島集落とは

寅さんの最終作のロケで有名になりました加計呂麻島の南にありますのが与路島です。
加計呂麻島同様に奄美大島の古仁屋から定期船で90分ほどのクルージングを楽しむことができます。
人口が100人に満たない小さな島で、のどかな風景が広がっています。
そんな中で見事なのがサンゴの石積された石垣だと言っていいでしょう。
近年は様々な背景から奄美大島や喜界島、与路島独特のサンゴの石垣も姿をけしつつあります。
最大の要因はこの地を訪れてみるとわかると思いますが用心棒という物を多くみることができます。
ハブの生息域であることに加え、サンゴの石垣にハブが好んで住み着くからだそうです。
ガジュマルとサンゴの石垣の景観は奄美大島らしさを感じさせる光景と言えます。
この光景をみるために与路島へ足を運ぶのも粋なものだと思います。
