First, we paddled through the mangroves at dusk and enjoyed the luxurious experience of watching the sky turn crimson from the water. Next, we set out to explore the forest after the sun had completely set (sweat). The forest was pitch-black at night, but our guide used a flashlight to spot one rare creature after another, and I was deeply moved by the profound beauty of Amami’s natural world.
