About Amami Museum
Amami Museum is located 1 hour drive from Amami Airport, 5 minutes drive or 15 minutes walk from Nase New Port, 10 minutes drive from Amami City Hall, and 3 minutes walk from Nagahama-cho bus stop. The museum is open from 9:00 to 17:00, and admission is until 30 minutes before closing time. The museum is closed on the third Monday of the month and from December 28 to January 1 during the year-end and New Year holidays. The museum is also open several times a year for free. Permanent exhibition fees for individuals are 300 yen for adults, 150 yen for high school and university students, and 100 yen for elementary and junior high school students. The facility exhibits and introduces the culture, history, and lifestyle of Amami, as well as the valuable wildlife and nature of Amami Oshima, which have been influenced by various countries. Visitors can learn more about the history and wildlife of Amami by viewing traditional Amami farm equipment, daily necessities, and traditional small boats, as well as stuffed specimens of Amami wildlife and insects.
