西郷南洲謫居跡とは

奄美大島には西郷隆盛(西郷南洲)が島流しにされた時の住居が「謫居跡(たっきょあと)」として残されています。この施設は西郷の奄美大島での妻・愛可那の子孫が所有しているものです。

●石碑
謫居跡に入ると正面に石碑があります。この石碑は勝海舟が設置したもので、勝海舟の碑文が記されていますが、長年の風化によって読めません。ただ、その碑文の内容の書かれた案内書が配布されています。

●謫居
奥に西郷の暮らしていた２間の謫居があり、現在は開放されて資料館になっています。室内には西郷の経歴や愛可那の生涯が紹介されており、西郷の直筆の書が掛けられています(達筆です)。

また、現在の家主から奄美での西郷の生活の様子を説明してもらえます。歴史番組では聞けないような話を数多く教えてもらえ、西郷の真の姿を垣間見ることができます。
