田中一村記念美術館は、各種の施設が複合して点在している奄美パーク内にある美術館です。奄美空港から車で5分という観光に便利な立地にあります。

奄美をテーマとした作品を多数残した日本画家の田中一村の作品を、年に4階の展示の変更も行いながら約80点作品ほど展示しています。田中一村は、栃木県出身の日本画家で50歳の昭和33年に奄美に移住し、工場で働いて生活費を稼ぐと作品を描き、お金がなくなるとまた働くという暮らしで、奄美の自然を描写する作品を数多く残した人物It was.

生涯を通じて華やかな中央の画壇の世界とは無縁に自らの道を追い求めたある種・求道者的な画家と言える存在です。この美術館では、田中一村の作品意外にも奄美に関する催しも行ってます。
