Scenery of Gunokura in Yamato Village
What is Gunjura in Yamato Village?
The Yamato-mura Gunsangura is a mass of Amami-style stilt warehouses used by the Yamato-mura community at that time from the Jomon to Heian periods.
You should not get lost because you can already see the distinctive pointy thatched roof from the sign at the intersection in front of the village office in Yamato Village.
I wrote "Amami-style" hereAmami-style stilt warehouses are unique in that not a single nail is used.It is a "stilt warehouse". You will notice that the shape is also different from the stilt warehouses often seen in illustrated books, etc., but the function is almost the same. The pillars to protect against rodents and the high floor to prevent moisture are common features.
Some houses on Amami Oshima are actually still utilizing these stilt warehouses, which reminds us of the wisdom and ingenuity of our ancestors. The village office of Yamato Village is often used as the starting point and calculation point for calculating travel time within the island of Amami Oshima. Therefore, you will probably pass by it often during your trip.
It would be nice to experience the romance of the Jomon period on this occasion.
