大島海峡の風景

大島海峡とは

大島海峡は、奄美大島とその南側にある加計呂麻島の間にある海峡で最狭部の幅は約1km、長さ約24kmほどあり、複雑な海岸線をもつことから瀬戸内と呼ばれる。

複雑な形状が入り込んだリアス式海岸の特徴が、独特で見応え十分。近くまで行くとあまり迫力が伝わらず、やや離れたところから、大島海峡の雄大な景色を楽しむことができるでしょう。

大島海峡の展望スポットとしては幾つかの場所がありますが、油井岳展望台が絶景のビューポイントとしておすすめで、ここからは大島海峡はもちろん、請島や与路島などを見渡せます。海峡内ではマグロや真珠などの養殖が盛んで、豊かな自然の宝庫です。穏やかな海峡の中を船が通り、素敵な雰囲気が味わえます。
