Higo Dyeing What is Yumeshibori?

Higo Dyeing Yume-Shibori is a facility where visitors can experience the traditional production process of Amami Oshima's famous Oshima tsumugi (silk pongee), which is dyed in mud. Higo Dyeing Yume-Shibori is located 20 minutes by car from Amami Airport and 20 minutes by car from Nase. Business hours are from 9:00 to 18:00, and the closing days are irregular. The experience is possible even on rainy days. The fee is estimated to be 3,000 yen per person. After receiving an explanation from the staff, visitors will experience the process of shibori, tecchi-wood dyeing, mud dyeing, and washing with water. The estimated time required is about 3 hours. You can take home the dyed items on the same day, such as T-shirts, curtains, handkerchiefs, tote bags, etc., which are popular among tourists. This is a unique Amami Oshima experience facility where you can experience the precious mud dyeing of Amami Oshima as a memory of your trip, as well as a handmade souvenir of your trip.
