What is Manenzaki Observatory?

One of the most distinctive features of Amami Oshima is the azure sea, which can be felt firsthand at the Manenzaki Observatory. Manenzaki Observatory is located along the road from Koniya in Setouchi Town in the southern part of Amami Oshima toward Honohoshi Beach.

Manenzaki Observatory is located at the southernmost tip of Amami-Oshima and offers a spectacular view of the island, and the clarity of the sea seen from the observatory is astonishing. Just by looking at the clear blue gradation of the sea, the stress of daily life will disappear.

A short distance downstream from the observatory is Kattetsuwan, a diving spot due to the cleanliness of its waters. Kattetsuwan is also the only place in the world where the "Amami Hoshizorafugu" can be seen, which can only be seen on the Amami main island.

From the observatory, visitors can also see Kakaroma Island on the other side of the island, and the white shapes of yachts and cruisers on the surface of the water. An information board with a map of the surrounding scenic spots is posted at the entrance to the observatory.
