湯湾岳とは

奄美の霊山といってもいいのが湯湾岳で標高は694mあり、奄美大島の最高峰です。
最高峰の神秘性からでしょうシニレク、アマミコがこの地に降り立ったことから奄美大島は始まったという伝承があります。
奄美群島国立公園の特別保護地区に頂上付近全体が指定されています。
知名度の高いアマミノクロウサギを筆頭に貴重な奄美・南西諸島の固有種の生息場所だからです。
登山ルートは大和村と宇検村の二ヶ所からですが、昔ながらのルートを選ぶのなら50分かけて宇検村の湯湾岳展望台の登山口からがおすすめです。
逆に車を使って利便性を求めるのなら奄美フォレストパークから20分ほどで登山口に到着します。
登山口から頂上までは15分ほどのルートになっています。
どちらを選ぶにせよ、奄美大島は降水量が多いですから、雨具の準備を忘れずにするのが必須です。
