島尾敏雄文学碑とは

島尾敏雄文学碑は、太平洋戦争後には純文学者としてその名を知られた島尾敏雄を顕彰して建立された記念碑It is.

島田敏雄は戦時中に加計呂麻島にあった海軍の特攻隊の隊長を務めた人物で、戦後その体験を元にした作品を上梓したことから、その基地の跡地であるこの場所に記念碑が存在しています。

特攻隊と言えば神風特攻隊のような航空機のイメージが強いと思いますが、ここにあったのは「震洋」と呼ばれた小型の水上艇に爆弾を搭載して敵艦に体当たり攻撃をする海上特攻兵器の基地でした。

悪化する選挙区に際し、様々な特攻兵器が考案・実用化された内の一つで、北上してくる連合軍の艦艇にを迎撃のために設けられた基地でした。

ここでの経験を経て生き残った島尾敏雄の業績を後生に伝える記念碑となっています。
