Our family of four took part. It was our first time canoeing, but it went surprisingly smoothly. We were able to explore the mangroves for about an hour and a half, so we were completely satisfied. Toward the end, I was the only one who got tired, so I tied my canoe to my second son’s with a rope and had him pull me along—that’s another great memory. While snorkeling, we spotted a turtle within the first minute. We saw a total of four turtles. The changing rooms and showers were clean, and our guide, Nana, was very kind. She recommended various shops and attractions, which helped us decide where to have dinner and what to do the next day. With the included transportation, it was a fulfilling tour, and I highly recommend it.

Thanks to Mr. Kubo, our guide, who provided such thorough explanations, the tour was an incredibly satisfying experience. Perhaps because he has such a deep understanding of the Amami black rabbit’s ecology, he planned the tour with the optimal conditions for sightings in mind, and as a result, we were able to spot several black rabbits on the way back. Whenever we spotted them, he made sure to time the photos and videos perfectly, allowing me to capture some truly precious footage. I’d love to join this tour again the next time I visit Amami, and I highly recommend it to anyone considering it! Thank you so much!!

As the original guided tour operator in Amami, the guide explained things while taking into account how the area has changed over the years, which gave us a glimpse into Amami’s history. We also learned about wildlife—including creatures we wouldn’t have noticed on our own—their calls, their usual habitats, and their interactions with people. Since there are habu snakes around, it’s reassuring to have a local guide. Lunch at Torishin is also a surefire hit. Even the elementary school kids who joined were completely satisfied. It was also a huge help that several hotels offer shuttle service. I’d definitely like to use this service again. Thank you so much, Ryota!

The detailed tour led by a local guide was excellent—it not only covered the history and the route along the line but also provided a comprehensive overview of the entire experience. The kids really enjoyed it, too!

It was such a fun day! On the mangrove canoe tour, we couldn’t paddle through the mangrove tunnel because it was low tide… but we were able to see the exposed roots and a wide variety of creatures up close—a sight unique to low tide—making it a valuable experience to learn about the nature of Amami Oshima. The guide provided very thorough explanations, giving us a great opportunity to learn about Amami’s history, culture, and local traditions. I’d love to join the tour again!

It was the most memorable experience of my stay in Amami! I was absolutely thrilled to see so many creatures up close, including black hares, blue jays, habu snakes, and Amami smooth-skinned newts. I was particularly amazed by the guide’s keen observational skills. I was truly impressed by his ability to spot one creature after another in the pitch-black forest and bring them into view for us. I could also sense the guide’s deep affection for the Amami black rabbit, which allowed me to appreciate its charm even more. He answered each of my questions thoughtfully, and by teaching me not only about the ecology of the animals but also about Amami’s natural environment and history, he made this a truly educational tour. Another major highlight was the sense of oneness with nature that only a Jeep tour could provide. Feeling the breeze and the sounds of the forest, looking up at birds flying overhead, and taking in the night air of the forest with my whole body—it was a special experience that you simply can’t have in a regular minivan. This is a tour I highly recommend for truly experiencing the wonders of Amami’s nature. I’d love to join it again! Thank you so much!
